Religious TV network worker claims employer violated ADA

7/3/2008 6:30 AM

A former television director with TCT Television Network filed suit against the network in federal court alleging TCT violated the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) when it fired him.

Timothy Malone filed suit June 30 alleging he was terminated on June 7, 2007, even though he was performing his duties in a manner consistent with the legitimate concerns of his employer.

According to Malone, he suffers from Distal Myopathy and TCT was fully aware of his condition.

TCT is headquartered in Marion and operates a religious-based television network on various channels throughout the Midwest.

Malone claims the only reason he was terminated was because he was disabled which is a violation of ADA.

He claims his dismissal caused him to suffer mental anguish, inconvenience, embarrassment and lost wages.

Represented by John Baker of Springfield, Malone is seeking damages in excess of $75,000 to compensate him for economic losses plus exemplary damages and attorney fees.

The case has been assigned to U.S. District Judge G. Patrick Murphy in East. St. Louis.
